It doesn't take a telescope to be a stargazer. Try a pair of binoculars! If the sky is clear and it's reasonably dark there's no reason why you can't check out some familiar constellations, planets and much, much more.  You can learn the basics at RASC, Toronto Centre's Nova Program.
